What exactly is extra width/depth, and why would I need it?

In the world of Pedorthics, there is no "one-size-fits-all" solution. Proper-fitting shoes prevent pressure and many other ailments that can impede your daily comfort. To have your footwear fit properly, it is important to look at the length, width, and depth. Having a removable footbed allows for the use of a custom orthotic device, if required, and provides extra interior space as required to accommodate for bony prominences like bunions or hammer toes.

Here are some quick tips of the trade to know if you're walking confidently with a healthy fit:

👣The length should be spaced about a thumb width between the end of the longest toe and the end of the shoe.

👣The width should be wide enough that the sides are not bulging out of the shoe. The widest points of the forefoot should be in line with the corresponding parts of the insole.

👣For depth, pinch the material at the end of the laces (towards the toes) the material should have some play, but not enough to grab with both fingers. Sometimes, however, the minimum may not be enough and you will require extra space to give comfort to your ailments.
